It is important to go through your insurance policy carefully, making sure you understand what the clauses, terms and conditions mean and what you expect from it.
Depending on your building, certain insurance policies could cover you for damage caused by:
1. Theft or malicious damage to your home
2. Fire or explosion
3. Acts of nature such as wind, lightning, storms, hail, flood, snow or earthquakes.
4. Burst, leaking or overflowing geysers or water-heating systems and water pipes.
5. Impact and damage to property caused by vehicles, falling trees, aircrafts or animals.
6. Power surges and dips.
The area and size of the property will of course influence your policy, as will the age of your property, the condition that it is in, any external structure that could be a risk to the home plus the owner's credit score and their history of claims.
