In the ever-evolving world of interior design, selecting the right paint colour can have a profound impact on both the saleability as well as the liveability of any home. To keep your home from feeling outdated, it is useful to be aware of the current colour trends and how they could be incorporated into your home’s interior design.
"Paint colours can have a huge impact on the perception of a home's value and appeal. When selecting paint colours before selling a home, it's essential to consider not only personal preferences but also the broader market trends. While neutral tones create a versatile canvas that appeals to a wide range of potential buyers, incorporating some of the popular colour trends on a feature wall or in the home’s décor could be an easy way to make any space feel more modern and updated," says Adrian Goslett, Regional Director and CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa.
To provide homeowners with some inspiration, RE/MAX of Southern Africa shares a few insights into the popular colour choices for 2024:
Warm, Earthy Tones
The year ahead is all about creating cozy spaces that hug you as you enter the room. Trade in your neutral greys for some soft, warm caramels, and shades of oatmeal. You can use the lighter shades of these colours on the walls and embrace the brighter shades on scatter cushions or on furniture, like an armchair.
Ocean Blues
In today’s fast-paced world, most of us are looking for a serene escape. Embrace the various shades of cyan – from the playful aquas and teals to the deep and moody blues and everything in between – to create your own ocean-inspired sanctuary. The bolder colours in this palette can make for striking feature walls, while the softer shades can even be used as a replacement for the standard white, grey, or cream neutrals that are often used on interior walls.
Bold bursts of colour
Don’t be afraid to add bold pops of colour into your home this year. Warm shades of mustard yellow and orange clay colour are becoming increasingly popular interior design statements. That being said, when selling a home, it is best to use these colours in moderation, as they can make for controversial design features.
“As we get stuck into the new year, I would encourage homeowners to seize the opportunity to embrace the fresh wave of trends and breathe new life into their homes. For those who are planning on selling, it would also be useful to lean on the advice of a local real estate professional who can share insights into what colours are the most popular among buyers in the area,” he concludes.
