Why keep your blinds clean?
We reckon you clean your windows regularly, but what about the window furnishings covering them? They need some TLC as well, so it is important to keep them clean. Clean blinds will last longer, and will keep your windows looking clean and sophisticated. We at Color Blinds & Interiors consider ourselves experts in all things window furnishings, which is why we have decided to share some of our insider secrets, and give you 7 fantastic tips to help you keep your gorgeous blinds clean.
Tip 1: Most supplies you need for cleaning your blinds are already in your home
No need to go shopping for blind cleaning supplies. All you will really need to clean your blinds is a few basic household tools. Water, a cloth, preferably a microfiber cloth, some dishwashing liquid, and that is that.
Tip 2: Close the blinds
Before starting to clean, ensure you blinds are fully lowered. Venetian blinds can be lowered and the slats tilted downward but not completely closed. Roller blinds can be pulled all the way down to the closed format. Vertical blinds can be closed completely in the horizontal format.
Tip 3: Leave the blinds on the wall
There is no need to remove the blinds from the wall when you are cleaning it. Rather leave them hanging as they are and clean them from there. Removing blinds carries the risk of accidental damage. Rather let a blinds professional, remove and hang your blinds.
Tip 4: Dust the blinds
Hold the blind for stability and gently dust from top to bottom, or in the case of vertical blinds from side to side. A microfiber cloth or a feather duster can be used. Just remember to be careful and gentle with your blinds.
Tip 5: Wipe your blinds with a damp cloth
If your blinds are not clean enough after dusting, wipe them with a moist cloth. Microfiber cloths are ideal, but in a pinch even an old sock can be used instead. Just be careful not to make the blinds too wet. Over exposure to moisture can be bad for fabric blinds.
Tip 6: Avoid using detergents or any harsh chemicals
Do not use any detergents or harsh chemicals to clean your blinds. All you need is some good old water and perhaps a little bit of dishwashing liquid if you are trying to remove any tough stains.
Tip 7: Clean your blinds regularly
In order to get the most out of your fantastic blinds, it is important to clean them regularly. We recommend that you clean your blinds thoroughly every four months, making it the perfect addition to your seasonal spring clean.
