Blinds vs Curtains, what would you go for? We as ColorBlinds get this question often, but it eventually comes down to personal preference, and the type of opening you have. Luckily ColorBlinds supplies both, so let’s explore the pros and cons of curtains and blinds and where they would work best.
Curtains have been around for hundreds of years and a grand set of curtains draped from a rail can add a luxurious finish to any room. There are a few different types of materials available to suit your specific need. For example, you get blockout materials, light filtering materials and sheer/voile materials. Blockouts are thick materials, and aid in privacy and keeping the harsh Namibian sun out completely. Light filtering fabrics allow the right amount of light in, whilst giving a degree of privacy. Sheers are a light fabric, which in its semitransparent state allows much needed natural light and increased day time view.
Curtains keep your room nice and cosy in the comforts of your own home, making it look less bare as their lavishness can form a feature adding character to a room. It also gives a striking and sophisticated look to a room. Bedrooms are the ideal place to have your blockout curtains, with the option of a sheer curtain at the back, to grant you that much needed Sunday afternoon nap. Living rooms work well with light filtering fabrics, to remove the harsh glare for TV viewing, or a voile to allow natural light. In the case of wide format stack doors, it grants a beautiful view of your outdoor landscape.
Blinds offer completely different benefits and with so many different designs available at Colorblinds, including roller blinds, vision blinds, roman blinds, and venetian blinds to name a few. You’ll be guaranteed to find one that suits your style and your decor.
Blinds are more practical and functional with the ability to filter the amount of light that enters the room. Vertical blinds, Wood Venetian, and Aluminium Venetian blinds are fantastic at being able to filter the light, whilst still providing a good level of privacy with their ability to tilt. Many more people are also now opting for blinds due to the ease of maintenance, as Colorblinds offers a 3-year warranty on all products supplied by us.
If you’re still in two minds you may use both, as blinds are used to control the light and the curtains are there purely to dress the window and never actually get moved, or are only closed at night to provide extra insulation and better block the morning light. Common examples are having a wood or aluminium venetian blind within the window reveal, and a sheer fabric curtain to dress the window. One can opt for a sheer roller blind complimented by a blockout curtain in the front.
